Twin Boom DH-88 Comet

This was a variant of the DH-88 Melbourne racer modified to have three engines and twin tail booms. The extra engine gave the aircraft extra speed but at the cost of range. This meant that more stops had to be made.

One of the contestants of the Melbourne race opted for this three engined variant and specified the aircraft to be painted black and christened "Black Magic".

Black Magic eventually had to abandon the race in India due to overheating of the rear engine.
