Vultee P-54B Goose

The Vultee P-54 was developed as a high altitude interceptor and first flew in 1943. Even though the Lycoming XH-2470-1 caused a lot of problems during testing, 300 aircraft were ordered. The first were delivered early in 1944 and flew over Europe as escorts to the US bombers.
