De Havilland DH-91 Albatross KLM

The KLM bought 12 De Havilland DH-91 Albatross airliners in 1938. The first was delivered in November 1938.

The Albatross was used on flight to the Dutch East Indies by KLM until the German invasion in May 1940. During the brief war a number of DH-91s were destroyed on the ground. However 3 were captured by the Germans and impressed in the Luftwaffe.

Two other aircraft were outside the Netherlands during the invasion and flew to the UK in June 1940. They were added to the RAF fleet of ex Imperial Airways DH-91s.
