Boulton Paul Defiant NF Mk-VIIAllthough the Defiant NF Mk-II with the 1260hp Merlin XX was praised as an efficient night fighter the pilot still called for more power.
Therefore in 1942 the first Defiant flew with a Rolls Royce Griffon II engine, similar to the engine used in the Spitfire Mk-XII. This gave a marked improvement in performance.
In 1943 the Defiant NF Mk-VII came in service using the Griffon 65 producing 2050hp. This gave the Defiant NF Mk-VII a top speed of 400 mph making it a very succesful night fighter.
